First, it began as a crazy idea and intended to be just for friends, but suddenly ‚screwing belts’ with old hydrant seals became a popular brand name and finally resulted in the formation of a company.

Few years ago, Mac Winfield came up with the idea of building a table with a disused hydrant of the fire brigade. Through this connection to hydrants, at the end of 2006, he noticed that there were hydrants in the Hess-Street in Köniz (Bern) that had been worked at and whose registration numbers had been replaced. Without hesitation, Mac spoke to the municipal worker and asked him for some old number badges that had been substituted. Although he didn’t know yet, what to employ the snatched seals for, he was cleaning them when his friend Joshi Kühni stopped by. After a nice chat drinking beer, they came up with the glorious idea of converting these badges into unique belt buckles. A few days later and armed with an old military belt, the first STREETBELT was tightened around their waists.

Also their friends were very keen on that special belt. That’s how the demand for STREETBELT begun. As soon as the popularity of this accessory started spreading beyond their closest circle of friends and the supply of belts and screws was augmenting, on the 1st April 2008 the incorporated company (AG), Street Tools AG, was established. With the objective of developing creative ideas further, creating and manufacturing unique products of Swiss top quality. An ideal accommodation was rented in the beautiful Bernese quarter of Matten, where nowadays the STREETBELT studio and head office is located. At this idyllic place near the Bernese Aar River the unique STREETBELT products come into existence, which are entirely crafted by hand in the contiguously hired studio. Here, the trade label STREETBELT.CH with the predicate ‚100% Swiss made’ was born.
